The BSI Group of Companies

GuestAware™

At BSI, we believe we should adopt a leadership position and play a pivotal role in the influencing and support of environmental and corporate social responsibility standards within the accommodation and meetings supply chain.

CSR & Influencing Our Supply Chain

BSI has adopted industry-leading measures to heighten visibility of hotel and venue achievements, progress and standards in CSR, energy conservation, biodiversity, waste management, health & safety, guest security and duty of care. This has been achieved through:

  • Supplier contract agreements & validation of current policies & procedures
  • Development of bespoke supplier extranet allowing CSR data capture at property & group level
  • Incorporation of key environmental & safety measurement points within customer rate programmes
  • Hosted educational initiatives & guest speaker support to raise the profile of CSR issues
  • Robust processes against perceived breaches of CSR best practise

Our influence is exerted directly with accommodation providers and venues by engaging senior management working within the industry to:

  • Ensure the supplier understands the importance of environmental standards and CSR best practise to our clients
  • Deliver appropriate and effective channels for accommodation providers and venues to source industry-leading independent advice on energy saving measures in conjunction with the HCIMA’s Hospitable Climate initiative
  • Allow suppliers, through data consolidation, to benchmark their environmental practises against industry and competitor norms

Making Informed Buying Decisions

The knowledge gained regarding our supply chain has been instrumental in influencing and guiding both procurement strategies and individual decision makers in their selections of accommodation and venue providers.

This influence has been further enhanced with the integration of BSI’s GuestAware™ programme into BSIDirect™ - BSI’s online, self-booking tool technology.

The GuestAware™ programme allows travellers and travel arrangers make informed decisions at the point-of-sale based not just on price, but also on a potential supplier’s CSR credentials, including…

  • Environmental policy, procedures, accreditation, training & specific eco-initiatives
  • Health & safety policy, procedures, training and risk management
  • Fire safety & evacuation training
  • Equality, diversity and flexible working practices
  • Integrity and business ethics
  • Security and duty of care
  • Added-value extras

Such information has raised the bar in the supply chain with respect to CSR standards whilst powerful reporting suites allow customers to monitor and report on environmental and CSR aspirations.
